This week’s challenge is “Emotions.” Although you can’t see faces, I think it’s clear from how she holds herself that the girl on the left is resistant to running into the water, while her friend is excited to drag her along. We’ve all had experiences like that, where a friend forces you do something you’re not sure you want to do but you do it anyway and it ends up being an adventure. I think this picture is interesting mainly because it’s body language that broadcasts their emotional states in this photo, and not their facial expressions.

In 1997, El Nino rainfall hit southern California hard. This photo is of the subsequent overflow at the man-made lagoon at University of California, Santa Barbara. You can see its small dock is nowhere near land, and is home to a flock of birds attempting to stay above water.
