Central Grocery is THE place to get muffaletas, which are pronounced muff-a-lottas, in the French Quarter. They come big; this is a half sandwich. It’s tough to tell scale in the photo, but imagine a man hole cover for reference. May 2009.

A water meter box cover in New Orleans, LA. To show support after Hurricane Katrina, these covers became a sort of community symbol and can be found on souvenir items such as t-shirts, jewelry, and coasters. Some people even steal the covers themselves. I photographed this one as I walked through the French Quarter. May 2009.
